The Salvation Army Thrift Store received massive donation of needed household items to provide assistance to those in need in Montreal and throughout Canada.
The Thrift Store will be receiving close to 40,000 household items of non-Heritage Furniture after winning a call of interest through Radio-Canada’s furniture and props inventory. The donation will be shared among Salvation Army Thrift Store locations in Montreal and surrounding locations in other provinces as early as October.
“This donation will go a long way in supporting our neighbours in need throughout fall and early winter,” says Tonny Colyn, National Donations Manager at The Salvation Army Thrift Store. “We appreciate the generosity from Radio-Canada, but also would like to stress many more donations are needed heading into the long winter months. We’ve just added a new location in Pointe-aux-Trembles; this is our first location in Eastern Montreal which is in great need of donations.”
The Radio Canada donation includes items such as housewares, décor, books, lamps, furniture, bedding, linens, curtains and more. “We encourage everyone, local businesses and individuals alike to open your hearts and closets, especially at this time of year when we struggle for donations, to give generously knowing that you are making an impact through supporting The Salvation Army,” Colyn added.
In fiscal year 2017-2018 alone The Salvation Army provided assistance to over 1.7 million Canadians in need. In Montreal The Salvation Army provides supports through feeding programs, shelters for the homeless, employment and life skills training, immigrant and refugee services and much more.
Donations are always needed and accepted daily through six Donor Welcome Centres in Montreal. Donations are used to support those in need such as newcomers and persons who need additional support through the Thrift Store’s voucher program.
