Raising Funds in the Rays of Summer

September 23, 2022

As we head into Fall, we wanted to have one more day to bask in the summer sun by sharing a charity event that will make you smile.

On July 15 between 11 am and 4 pm students Savita, Avery and Emily from St. Timothy’s Catholic School hosted their own fundraising event in Burlington’s Driftwood Park which raised $82.00 for our local Burlington Thrift Store.

Savita, who is 13 years old and in grade 8, founded Owl Army. While Emily who is 12 years old, also in grade 8, along with Avery who is 10 years old and in grade 5, founded the Potato Troops.

Under their respective units and with full force, they set up camp in the park with the hope of raising money for The Salvation Army Thrift Store because they believe in our cause. They enjoy thrifting at the Burlington store and appreciate the fact that we sell secondhand items, which are diverted from local landfills.

Of the items sold, were original artwork made by Savita and Emily, freezies for 10 cents, bookmarks for 50 cents, lemonade in a cup for $1.00, and much more! Once they raised the funds, they brought it to the local store, which will be used to help our Burlington community.

On behalf of The Salvation Army Thrift Store, we would like to thank Savita, Emily and Avery for their act of kindness and compassion. By hosting their charity event they have truly made a difference in their local community and the planet we share.
