BEDFORD COMMONS OPENING MARKS OUR 100TH THRIFT STORE IN CANADA

June 10, 2021

Halifax, NS – Tuesday, June 8th was a very special day for us here at The Salvation Army Thrift Store. Not only did we welcome the newest addition to our Thrift Store family in Bedford, Nova Scotia, this celebration also marked the official opening of our 100th store in Canada! We are thrilled to be able to continue serving our shared communities from coast to coast.

With the store at 25% capacity as per provincial COVID-19 guidelines, our new neighbours lined up outside the Bedford Commons location at 205 Damascus Road as they eagerly awaited their chance to shop for fab finds. The community was thrilled with the new store as the 12,000 square foot space welcomed over 200 Guests throughout the day – all while maintaining physical distancing guidelines and all other health and safety precautions.

“We are so excited to finally be open in Bedford Commons,” said Nova Scotia District Manager, Julie Buchanan. “After many delays due to COVID-19, we are now pleased to serve Bedford and surrounding communities with a large selection of great finds at affordable prices, all while generating funds for those in need and contributing to environmental sustainability through reuse and recycling.”

The Donor Welcome Centre at the Bedford Commons location has a dedicated Donation Attendant on site 7 days a week to gratefully accept donations and offer all Donors a 20% off thank-you coupon. Gently used clothing, housewares, textiles, toys, media, accessories, antiques, collectibles, and more are always welcomed, and our Donor Welcome Centres across Canada are especially in need of in-season clothing, accessories, and housewares throughout the year. Please note that as a safety precaution during COVID-19, we are temporarily not accepting large furniture donations.

The Salvation Army Thrift Store is committed to helping individuals and families in need in our communities. Over 1,000 vouchers were redeemed at a value of more than $58,000 through our Thrift Stores in Nova Scotia last fiscal year to empower individuals and families in need to shop free of charge, and our new Bedford Commons location will allow us to further serve the Halifax area. By shopping and donating with The Salvation Army Thrift Store, you are helping to support programs and services in your community, such as food banks for hunger relief, school programs and camps, shelter for people experiencing homelessness, and rehabilitation for those struggling with addictions, along with emergency relief efforts across Canada.

We want to send a huge thank you to the Bedford community and the surrounding area for their support leading up to this store opening. We are so grateful to everyone who came together to make yesterday’s celebration a success! We look forward to celebrating Bedford Commons’ one-year anniversary next year with a more traditional Grand Opening celebration – stay tuned!
