Lighten up your home decor with a secondhand lamp from your local Salvation Army Thrift Store. You'll always be able find a desk lamp, table lamp or even floor lamp in your thrifting adventures. Don't be deterred if it needs a little TLC... And definitely be open to re-envisioning your find.
Here are 5 ways to easily brighten a thrifted lamp:
1. Change the shade
You can always spruce up a lamp by changing the shade. You can score one at your local Salvation Army Thrift Store. Or you can even source one new. A new shade is an easy way to give a secondhand lamp a new look.
2. Refresh the base
A super simple way to refashion a thrifted lamp is by refinishing the base. You can paint it, stencil it or even decoupage the base. It's a crafty way to turn a drab, dated base into a modern centrepiece.
3. Restyle your lamp
Add some bling to your lamp. You could always repurpose old jewelry into embellishments hanging from the shade, stencil the shade or refashion the shade using new fabric.
4. Rewire it
Luckily my Dad is an electrical engineer. We've had many crafty dates rewiring vintage lamps. Or turning a regular lamp into a tri lite. If you have the tools and know how it's a great way to continue the lifecycle of a lamp.
5. Upcycle - Repurpose - Reuse
Another option is to turn your thrifted lamp into something new entirely. You can repurpose a chandelier into a hanging planter. Or a table lamp into a side table. Do a search via Google and you'll see there are so many innovative ideas for upcycling lamps.
