This fall we're experiencing a new normal with either our work or school set up. Our home offices have most likely been dusted off over these past few months for either ourselves, or our children, to settle into. Creating a space conducive to productivity is simple and low budget thanks to your local Salvation Army Thrift Store and in some cases your own creativity. Here's a nifty wall organizer made from upcycled thrifted finds.

- upholstery tacks & hammer
- scrap fabric or upcycled secondhand clothing
Step 1: Drop by your local Salvation Army Thrift Store to source a wooden board. I found a couple of wooden cutting boards that I thought would be perfect for repurposing into a wall organizer.
Step 2: Sand then oil your wooden cutting board. You can use original Olive Oil or Furniture Oil, depending on what you have on hand.
Step 3: Create "pockets" for organizing your office supplies out of your upcycled clothing. I used a pocket from a jacket then some felted wool from a thrifted sweater. Each were scraps as I've repurposed these pieces many times for other DIYs. Trim the pieces to varying sizes to fit different office supplies.
Step 4: Place your "pockets" on the cutting board then use upholstery tacks to nail them onto the board. You can use your glue gun for this step if you prefer.
Step 5: Once you've finished nailing your "pockets" to your board then you can hang your organizer and add your office supplies.
Depending on who the wall organizer is for, you could use felt from your local dollar store for the pockets. Pick bright colours then stitch the edges on three sides to create pockets.
Again, create these pockets in varying sizes. Then, use white glue to adhere them to your wooden cutting board - make sure to place wax paper in the pockets so the white glue doesn't seep through and glue your pockets shut. This is a great option for a child's home workspace!
