I am a huge fan of Christmas, and my family and I often decorate early, just so we can maximize our enjoyment of the cozy decor; but when Christmas is over, I am most definitely ready for a change of scenery. As much as I love putting the decorations up in November (early, I know!), I get equally excited to take them down and inject some brighter colours into our space.
As you may already know, there is a lot of psychology around colour, and how it impacts our mood. I find it especially important in the cold, dark winter months, to place punches of spring colours into our homes, to remind us that no matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow :)
My favourite way to instantly brighten things up in my house, is to go out and buy fresh lemons and limes - it is cheap, practical (I slowly use them for garnishes in my water), and impactful. My favourite accent colour is a soft green/blue, and when I saw this handmade bowl (pictured above), I knew it would be the perfect spot for my refreshing arrangement.
Having that in my living space might seem like a small thing, but it really makes all the difference! In addition to that, I also painted out an antique washstand I had (that was begging for my attention), in another variation of my favourite colour. On top, I accented it with a very vibrant floral abstract and a yellow frame I had and now it makes me happy every time I walk into that room :)
If you aren't into the blue colour palette, you could also consider Pantone's 'colour of the year 2017' which is a sprung fresh green, appropriately named 'Greenery'.
However you choose to do it, I would highly recommend seeing what you can find second hand (or at the grocery store!), that could add some sort of spring colour into your home - you will be glad you did!
