Easy DIY Christmas Tree Basket

This year with a bigger belly and a busy schedule I am not sure we will be putting up our Christmas tree this year. Although I do love our little tree, pictured above! I still wanted something festive. I decided an oversized DIY holiday wreath would be the perfect answer. Now the question was how to make it bigger than an average wreath?

DIY Holiday Wreath

The solution was simple! Use a hula hoop as the base.

Materials: DIY Holiday Wreath

  • Greenery
  • Sheers
  • Floral Tape
  • Floral Wire
  • Scissors
  • String
  • Hula Hoop
Wrap Hula Hoop with greenery tape

STEP 1: Wrap the Hula Hoop

Wrap hula hoop with floral tape. This will make sure the colour won’t pop through.

STEP 2: Create Grennery Bunches

I clipped off smaller branches from the larger branches. This makes it lighter and easier to attached. I ended up using around 3 pieces per bunch.

STEP 3: Wrap the Greenery Bunches

I wrapped the greenery with floral wire. This made sure the bunches would stay together.

STEP 4: Attach Greenery to Hula Hoop

Using the floral wire, securely attach the greenery bunch to the hula hoop and then cover with floral tape. The floral tape will help hide the ends of the greenery.

STEP 5: Overlap Greenery

Keep making bunches and attaching to the hula hoop. Make sure to overlap the greenery so you cannot see the ends o the previous bunch.

STEP 6: Spray Paint Bells

I found two great outdoor chimes from the Salvation Army thrift store! I knew I wanted to create a wreath and adding in some vintage bells would be perfect. Using the gold Metallic spray paint by Rust-Oleum they were totally transformed.

STEP 7: Attach String to Bells

Using some string I had in my craft box and scrap leather I was able to hang the bells. It worked out great and was really easy to do with some hot glue.

STEP 8: DIY Leather Bow

I totally thought A Plentiful Life had a bow DIY to reference, but it might have been from a long time ago! Here is an easy step by step, basically cut the leather as big as you will need for your bow!

I am so happy with how this turned out. Our ceilings are really high so honestly if I could have made this 4 times the size I would have! Might have to look into that for December, lol.
