5 ways buying secondhand can add to your personal style

Over the years I've loved thrifting as a way to develop my own personal style. Maybe you feel the same! There's nothing better than finding that go to outfit at your local Salvation Army Thrift Store. For me it's definitely more exciting than buying something brand new! And it's great for your bank account. I also find I tend to be more adventurous in my clothing choices when shopping secondhand.

The items I search for to up my style game on my thrifting treks are:

1. Bright colours
You can always dress up jeans or other plain standards with a bright top or cardigan. I love adding colour to my wardrobe!

2. Vibrant patterns
I'm a big lover of patterns. They help add personality to any outfit.

3. One-of-a-kind accessories
Accessories like jewelry, scarves, hats or bags can really add to an ensemble. I've found lovely pendants at my local Salvation Army Thrift Store that really add some pizzazz to my wardrobe.

4. Adventurous combinations
Take some risks by pairing up items you would never think to wear together. Try different colour combinations that are out of your comfort zone like purple and red.

5. Try something new
Surprise yourself and try something you may not have thought to wear. It costs nothing to collect a few things to take into the dressing room. You may surprise yourself! I bought a purple Matt & Nat bag from my local Salvation Army Thrift Store that I adore. Maybe you can add to your shoe collection with a brand you never would have bought brand new.

Those are my tips for expressing my personal style through my thrifting finds. What are your personal style tips?
