Welcomed back with open arms by the community, The Salvation Army Thrift Store has officially re-opened after a four month closure.
The Thrift Store, located at 2021 West 41st Avenue, officially re-opened their doors in October following a devastating fire that destroyed 6 businesses and a residential suite in June. Having sustained smoke and water damage, the Thrift Store has since renovated the location and is ready to serve the community once again.
“The response from the community has been beyond amazing!” says Indira Hewabandula, Retail District Manager for The Salvation Army Thrift Store. “When we quietly re-opened at the end of October there was a long line of guests eagerly waiting early on a Saturday morning. This really shows us how many people shopped thrift and are in need in this community.”
According to Hewabandula since the fire the Thrift Store has used the opportunity to renovate, improve their offering and provide even better service. “The fire acted as an opportunity for us to improve the store, increase training for the team and fill the location with even more great treasures for the home and family.”
A member of the community for over 8 years, the Thrift Store has contributed annually over $2,500 towards sending children to summer camps, assisting children overseas and providing support to families and individuals in need. For families and individuals who have needed additional support the Thrift Store has also provided over $3,000 annually of items free of cost through their voucher program.
This Black Friday on November 24th the Thrift Store will be hosting its official re-opening to thank the community for their support. “There will be refreshments, giveaways and up to 50 percent off deals to show our appreciation to our Kerrisdale family,” says Hewabandula. “It has been heart-warming to see the response from our guests who encouraged our team during the closure and has since been regular supporters of the store!”
