On Saturday March 18th, The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Orleans, Ontario; just outside of Ottawa, was destroyed by a blaze that filled the neighbourhood with smoke.

While the physical damage is estimated at $500,000, the true impact will be felt by those that use the store on a regular basis. Many shop there for discounted goods and also rely on support programs.

Reports indicate that it will be treated as a suspicious fire, having started near a drop-off area. The Arson Unit is looking into the situation and has several leads that it will be following.

The thrift store serves an important role in the community, and many will miss the support that it provides.
